Yoga Nidra is a systematic method of introducing complete physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. During the practice, one appears to be asleep, but the consciousness is functioning at a deeper level of awareness. We will have a brief period of gentle movement then recline for the remainder of the class. Sue's voice will lead you through the practice. At the beginning you will be asked to form a mental resolve, a sankalpa. You might want to think about this before class. It should be stated in a brief and clear form, and in the present tense. Such as...I am awakening my spiritual potential, My health is improving day by day, I feel gratitude for my life, and so forth.
You do not go to sleep but you may experience very deep relaxation that is said to equal several hours of sleep. Mats, blankets,and eye covers will be provided but please feel free to bring your own. if you wish. Wear warm socks and even mittens if you tend to get chilly while lying still.
