Living with chronic pain has become a way of life for millions of people in the United States. Often their doctors cannot adequately identify or address the causes of this pain. The result is the heavy reliance on prescription painkillers, with doctors writing 282 million prescriptions in 2012, or one for every American. Loss of jobs, reduced quality of life and addiction are too often the result. 

But there is new cause for hope. Recent neuroscience has uncovered exciting new evidence about the complex phenomena that is PAIN. This information is being used to help reduce perceived pain, reduce dependency on opioids and other medications, increase mobility and return individuals to their pre-pain productive selves. 

Join us for an exciting workshop, led by medical professionals adept at working with and treating chronic pain, as we explore what the latest science has uncovered about how pain starts and why pain persists. This workshop with be informative and experiential.

Matt McClanahan, DO is a board certified physician treating both Family Medicine and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine at the Integrative Medicine Associates, a part of the CHI Memorial Network. Dr. McClanahan's unique perspective often make him effective at healing a number of challenging conditions such as chronic low back/joint pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, IBS, etc.. 

Jason Therrien, DPT is a doctorate level board certified physical therapist, specializing in the treatment of complex and persistent pain conditions. He is trained as a certified Therapeutic Pain Specialist. He is a devoted rehabilitation professional, healthcare advocate, and wellness coach. He is a partner at Chattanooga Physical Therapy, an outpatient orthopedic clinic in downtown Chattanooga.  


Janka Livoncova has been practicing meditation and yoga since 1994 and teaching since 2004. She has completed the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in Mind-Body Medicine, professional training program and has been leading 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction courses at the Center for Mindful Living since January 2013. Janka maintains a daily meditation practice and regularly attends meditation retreats. 


Establishing a new pain paradigm, based on advancements in pain neuroscience and research, our goal is to encourage active patient participation, shifting their perception from one of fragility to empowerment through knowledge of their pain experience, awareness of their strengths, and a way forward to restore resiliency to their lives.
